The Freyr-Wolf Gallery is an online gallery of original digital photos. Some of the photos are available to buy as art cards. We are based in Nova Scotia, Canada. The sale of our cards will directly benefit Lunenburg County Ground Search and Rescue and Project Jessie through charitable donations. Our cards are not mass produced.
About the name Freyr was a mythological Norse god of fertility, ruling over the sun and rain and bountiful harvests and known for bestowing peace and pleasure. He was the son of Njord, a god of the sea, an appropriate father figure for a gallery based in maritime Canada. Mythology tells of the wolf-like monster, Fenrir, who was considered so dangerous, it was tricked and ultimately killed by Freyr's servant. In real life, wolves have been misaligned and misunderstood for centuries. Wolves are now identified as both key-stone and umbrella species; their enriching effect on the ecosystem is disproportionate to their relative abundance and their conservation ensures the protection of a range of species dependent on the same habitat. The wolf could be seen a symbol of life and by combining the wolf with Freyr, the Freyr-Wolf Gallery would like to link this intelligent animal with peace and majesty. |
